Adele has admitted that her ex-husband Simon Konecki ‘saved her life’ because he gave her ‘stability’ after she found herself on a ‘self-destructive path.’

The singer, 33, who split from the charity mogul in 2019 after just over a year of marriage, confessed she could have become ‘lost’ as a young woman in the music industry, but believes Simon and their son Angelo, nine, were ‘angels sent to her.’

Speaking during her One Night Only CBS special, Adele also revealed that a magazine personality quiz drove her to her decision to divorce Simon two years ago, which helped her realise she was just ‘plodding along’ in her marriage.

She told Oprah Winfrey: ‘I think Simon probably saved my life, to be honest with you. He came at such a moment, where the stability that him and Angelo have given me, no one else would ever have been able to give me.

‘Especially at that time, I was so young and I just, I think I would have got a bit lost in all of it.

‘I could have easily gone down some dodgy paths, you know? And sort of self-destructed from being overwhelmed by all of it.

‘He came in and was stable. The most stable person I’ve ever had in my life up until that point. Even now, I trust him with my life.’

Adele went onto say that she believes Simon and Angelo were ‘angels sent to [her],’ and the hardest part of her split was explaining the separation to their son.

She said: ‘I do love [your dad], I’m not not in love with him,’ it makes absolutely no sense to a six year old.

‘So there were so many answers I just couldn’t give him ’cause there aren’t any really. Like, you know, that he would understand.’

Adele – who is now dating sports agent Rich Paul – went onto admit she’d love to have more children in the future.

She said: ‘I would like more children. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if I didn’t because I have Angelo, but yeah, I think so.’

While blazing the promo trail for her new album 30, which is set for release on Friday the fiercely-private star has shed rare light on her personal life.

Adele revealed she realised she was no happy but merely ‘plodding along’ when she took a test in a ‘bouji’ magazine.

Adele revealed that her new song Easy On Me and her upcoming album 30 are both focused on her heartbreaking split from Simon.

While plugging the record, she has detailed what led her to divorce, with her latest insight revealing that she was driven to the split from the magazine.

She revealed that while doing a magazine personality test, she was faced with the question: ‘What’s something that no one would ever know about you?’

It was her answer that became her biggest wake-up call, as she said: ‘I’m really not happy. I’m not living, I’m just plodding along’.

She then recalled her friends’ reactions: ‘They all gasped. From there, I was like What am I doing? What am I doing it for?’

Last week, Adele admitted she was ‘f*****g devastated by her her divorce from Simon after realising she ‘no longer knew who she was.’

Gracing the cover of Rolling Stone, the singer confessed she had become so far from the person she was before they tied the knot that she made the difficult decision to walk away from their marriage.

Adele, who recently went public with her new romance with Rich Paul, added that her single life while living in Los Angeles lasted little more than ‘five seconds,’ after her friends’ failed attempts to set her up on blind dates.

She said: ‘I didn’t really know myself.’ I thought I did. I don’t know if it was because my Saturn return or if it was because I was well and truly sort of heading into my thirties, but I just didn’t like who I was. I didn’t really know myself.

    ‘I thought I did. But I just didn’t like who I was.’

Reflecting on the end of their marriage, she added: ‘It made me really sad. Then having so many people that I don’t know, know that I didn’t make that work…

‘It f*****g devastated me. I was embarrassed. No one made me feel embarrassed, but you feel like you didn’t do a good job.’
