Alan Carr announced as host of 2021 Royal Variety Performance as first acts are unveiled

    Alan Carr set to host 2021 Royal Variety Performance which will feature performances from Ed Sheeran, Rod Stewart and Anne-Marie

    • This year’s show will be broadcast in December on ITV and the ITV Hub 


    Alan Carr is set to host the The Royal Variety Performance, with the comedian saying it’s a ‘dream come true’ to compere the show.

    The funnyman, 45, will take to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall in London in December, with performances from Ed Sheeran, Sir Rod Stewart, Anne-Marie, and Years and Elvis Costello.

    Alan said: ‘It’s such an honour to be asked to host this year’s Royal Variety Performance, it really is a dream come true.

    ‘With so many amazing performers it’s going to be a night to recollect and if I remember correctly, the last time I appeared I was wearing a skimpy leopard print mini dress so I’m hoping as host this time I’ll be wearing something a bit more classy!’

    Senior members of the Royal Family will be in attendance and they will also be entertained by the London cast of Moulin Rouge and Matilda The Musical.

    Cirque du Soleil will return to the Royal Variety Performance stage with a performance from their show Luzia, while Brit Award winner James Blunt will play some of his greatest hits.

    The evening will also feature performances from Gregory Porter and Elvis Costello, as well a special collaboration from actress Keala Settle and the Some Voices choir with song This is Me from Keala’s 2017 film The Greatest Showman. 

    Meanwhile, Judi Love, Bill Bailey, Chris McCausland and Josh Widdicombe will provide comedy on the evening.

    The event is held in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, whose patron is Her Majesty The Queen.

    The money raised from the show helps those people from the world of entertainment in need of care and assistance.

    The Royal Variety Performance, which started in 1912, has had 152million TV viewers worldwide since it first aired in 1963, making it the most successful entertainment show on the planet.

    The Royal Variety Performance 2021 will be screened on ITV and ITV Hub in December.
