Amazon is set to open its first full-sized grocery store which will let shoppers walk out without having to pay a cashier.
The 25,000-square-foot Amazon Fresh store, located in Bellevue, Washington, is set to open on June 17.
It features an array of cameras and sensors that allows customers to skip the checkout line.
The Just Walk Out technology uses computer vision, sensor fusion and deep learning to track items placed in a cart or basket, and then tallies up the bill to be paid with the person’s Amazon account or designated payment card.
The Bellevue location will be the first full-sized store to offer the technology, while also allowing traditional payment methods.

Dilip Kumar, Amazon’s vice president of Physical Retail and Technology, said in a statement: ‘Bringing Just Walk Out technology to a full-size grocery space with the Amazon Fresh store in Bellevue showcases the technology’s continued ability to scale and adapt to new environments and selection.
‘I’m thrilled it’ll help even more customers enjoy an easier and faster way to shop and can’t wait to get their feedback on this latest Just Walk Out offering.’
The store, located in The Marketplace at Factoria, will be open from 7am to 10pm PT following its grand opening on Thursday.
Amazon bought upmarket grocery store chain Whole Foods in 2017, although it is unclear if their latest Fresh store will carry the same grocery lines

When customers step into the grocery story they will be asked to choose if they want to use Just Walk Out shopping or the traditional checkout lanes.
Those who opt for the Just Walk Out experience can shop three ways: They can scan the QR code in their Amazon app, use Amazon One to scan their palm, or insert a credit or debit card linked to their Amazon account.
And once inside, customers can grab items and place them in a cart or basket like normal.
Anything taken off the shelf is added to the person’s virtual cart and items put back are automatically removed.

‘At the end of their trip, customers shopping with the Just Walk Out experience simply scan or insert their entry method again to exit, according to Amazon.
‘Customers have enjoyed the effortless shopping experience enabled by our Just Walk Out technology at our Amazon Go, Amazon Go Grocery, Amazon Fresh stores in the UK, and third-party retailer stores,’ said Kumar.
‘The feedback has been fantastic, with customers noting that skipping the checkout allows them to save time and reduce contact in stores.’
The first Amazon Fresh store opened this past September in Seattle, Washington.
There are now eight open in the Los Angeles region, four in the Chicago area and one in Virginia.
And another location is planned on Jackson Street in Seattle’s Central District.
