America's Got Talent: Jimmie Herrod performs last during first semifinals and becomes frontrunner

    America’s Got Talent saved the best for last with Golden Buzzer singer Jimmie Herrod as the final performer on Tuesday during the first semifinals episode.

    The 30-year-old singer belted out a rendition of the Pink song Glitter In The Air that showcased his dynamic range.

    ‘Bravo, Jimmie. You are a show stopper I mean, I didn’t think you could get better than what you did the other day. You are unbelievable,’ said judge Sofia Vergara, 49, who used her Golden Buzzer on Jimmie.

    ‘This is how a semi-final performance should be,’ Sofia added while pounding the judges’ table.

    ‘Jimmie, that was a master class what an amazing, amazing singer you are,’ said show creator and judge Simon Cowell, 61.

    Heidi Klum, 48, said it was good that Jimmie performed last because she didn’t know who could follow him.

    ‘I want to say you’re by far the best singer in this competition. What you do is perfection. When I watch you sing and I watch you hit those notes it’s effortless I could listen to you day or night. America, you’ve got to vote for him. You could win this whole thing,’ judge Howie Mandel, 65, told him.

    The stakes were high for the 11 semifinalists performing as only five would  advance to the final of the NBC talent competition show. 

    Singer Peter Rosalita, a 10-year-old from the Philippines, started the show by singing a cover of Without You by Mariah Carey. He got off to a shaky start by asking the band to start again, but his vocals were on point and impressed the judges.

    Simon told him he loved his performance and admitted that he got emotional and sad listening to him singing.

    Michael Winslow played a game of how many noises he could make in two minutes and let the judges pick the categories from animals to oceans. 

    Sofia told him that she was glad that America wanted him to stay and Howie said he deserved to be in the finals.

    Next, the judges’ wild card pick Beyond Belief Dance Company, a six-member all young girls group, ‘slayed’ dancing a choreographed routine to ‘Me Too’ by Meghan Trainor. The bubble gum dancing routine excited the judges.

    Aidan Bryant, 16, stunned the judges again by performing a dangerous aerial show high above the stage with pyrotechnics. Sofia told him his act kept getting better and better. The audience gave him a standing ovation and even Simon got on his feet. Simon told him it was a ‘gold medal performance.’ 

    Singer Tory Vagasy performed ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight.’ Before coming out, she said she was determined to prove she was worthy of the stage. Heidi and Sofia were both on their feet clapping for in the end. 

    Simon told her she was good, but ‘too safe. ‘ He told her he preferred people who took more risks. Howie agreed. He told her she was an amazing singer but that this show needed more.

     Heidi told her that any Broadway stage would be lucky to have her and thought her performance was flawless.

    Next, the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team gave they’re all against the tough competition. Their martial art moves were completely synchronized as they flipped in the air, did cartwheels and smashed blocks of wood in half. 

    All the judges were on their feet at the end of their performance. Howie told them ‘you are my favorite act so far of the night’ and Simon said it was their best performance yet.

    Singer Madilyn Bailey performed an emotional original song called ‘Red Ribbon’ that she wrote for her grandmother who passed away. Madilyn, dressed in red, played the piano as well. 

    Howie told her ‘that was kind of touching’ but that he didn’t think it was ‘anything’ and called it disappointing. 

    Heidi told her ‘you nailed it’ and ‘you finally won me over.’ Simon told Howie that he was talking out of his ‘a**’ and told Madilyn that her song was beautiful and he had so much respect for her.

    Magician Dustin Tavella enlisted the judges to be part of his act. They picked a marker, a postcard, wrote a word, and picked an envelope. Terry ripped off a corner of the envelope. Then Dustin lit the envelope on fire. 

    He had them lower Heidi’s X and then pulled the envelope with the postcard they made out of the back of her sign. All the judges applauded his trick. Simon said his act was so special and that he was a born storyteller. He told him that he thought he would be in the finals.

    Korean Soul, a group that had known each other for 10 years, sang a cover of ‘You Say’ by Lauren Daigle. They said they all quit their jobs to be on the show.

     Simon said their song choice was better than before, but that some of the song ‘really sounded out of tune.’ 

    Sofia said she didn’t know as much about music as Simon, but that it sounded amazing to her.

    Comedian Gina Brillon from the Bronx made the judges and the audience laugh with stories about her kids and about being a mother. She had Simon laughing from the start. 

    Howie told her he was so proud of her and that she was his wife’s favorite. Heidi told her she was fabulous and was a firecracker. Sofia said she was also relatable. 

    Simon said he was critical of her last time but ‘would be the first to admit that I was talking out of my a**.’ 

    America’s Got Talent will return Wednesday on NBC with a results episode.
