‘Lately, I’ve been hearing this sound,’ he explained. ‘Like a tick, tick, tick. Like a time bomb.’

The trailer skips from Jonathan’s hum-drum job at a diner to treasured nights with his girlfriend Susan (Alexandra Shipp).

Meanwhile, he prepares for an upcoming workshop performance of his musical along with singers Roger and Karessa, played by Joshua Henry and Vanessa Hudgens, all while the tick of the clock continues to taunt him.

Tick, Tick… Boom! marks Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda’s directorial debut, working from a script penned by Dear Evan Hansen’s Steven Levenson.

The musical explores Larson’s years before penning the hit show Rent, which debuted off-Broadway in 1996.

Sadly, Larson would not witness the blockbuster success of the show.

He died unexpectedly on the morning of Rent’s first performance after suffering an aortic dissection believed to have been caused by undiagnosed Marfan syndrome.

The film makes up just one of 2021’s many movie musical offerings.

Also due out this year is the highly anticipated adaptation of Miranda’s In the Heights, as well as the Ben Platt-fronted feature Dear Evan Hansen, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and Annette.
