Arsenal reignite interest in Houssem Aouar and 'prepare bid and contract' for Lyon maestro

Arsenal are ready to test the resolve of Lyon by attempting to sign Houssem Aouar for the second successive summer, reports claim. The Frenchman was the subject of two bids from the Gunners last September which fell way short of Lyon’s valuation as the Ligue 1 side held firm.

But, Arsenal have now been offered hope they can finally land the midfield playmaker on the cheap.

Lyon failed to qualify for the Champions League last season, a huge economic blow for president Jean-Michel Aulas and the club are conscious they may need to balance the books.

Mikel Arteta did eventually bring in a midfielder on deadline day after depositing Thomas Partey’s £45million release clause at La Liga HQ.

However, it’s understood that the Spaniard still wants to bring another midfielder through the door as he looks to drive his side up the table.

Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is also attracting interest from the Gunners while James Maddison is top of their shortlist – although he would cost around £60m.

Arsenal are still optimistic they can entice Anderlecht into the sale of Albert Sambi Lokonga.

They saw a bid in the region of £13.5million rejected for the player earlier this week.

It remains unclear whether their reported pursuit of Aouar will impact negotiations with the Belgians for Lokonga.

In terms of outgoing, Express Sport understands a number of exits are now close to being finalised.

Konstantinos Mavropanos looks set to join Stuttgart on a permanent deal following a successful loan spell.

Matteo Guendouzi has also agreed personal terms with Marseille ahead of a potential move back to France.

Granit Xhaka’s move to Roma is also close the being finalised and could be made official if Switzerland are knocked out of Euro 2020.

Hector Bellerin was the subject of an offer from Villarreal but Arsenal are looking to recoup around £20million for the right-back.
