The 26-year-old was arrested and detained by police in Minsk on Sunday after the Ryanair plane he was on was diverted mid-flight and forced into an emergency landing.
The country’s opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said she had received information that “he’s in the hospital with problems with heart”.
Tadeusz Giczan, editor of Nexta TV, the platform which Mr Protasevich works for, tweeted: “According to his mother, Roman Protasevich is in hospital in critical condition – heart disease.”
