Below Deck Mediterranean’s new chief stew Katie Flood claims Sandy Yawn ISN’T a micromanager – and says she’s getting along great with the controversial captain and Malia White

Captain Sandy Yawn and bosun Malia White became the two most hated cast members on Below Deck Mediterranean following their feud with Hannah Ferrier last season.

But Hannah’s replacement, Kiwi chief stewardess Katie Flood, has nothing but praise for the pair in a new interview to promote the show’s sixth season.

Speaking to Decider, the 29-year-old insists that Sandy isn’t a micromanager, despite being tagged as one by viewers and former castmates.

‘Me and Sandy got along really well,’ she said.

‘I had a really positive experience working with her and she really trusted me. She didn’t come across as a micromanager as some captains do and we had a really good relationship, so I really enjoyed it.’

Katie added: ‘I’m a very empathetic person and I think Captain Sandy can be as well, so I think we definitely had that in common.’

She also had kind words for Malia, stating that she couldn’t have made it through the season without the obedient bosun.

Katie replaced fan favourite Hannah as Below Deck Med’s Chief Stewardess this season.

According to Bravo TV, the New Zealand native is a ‘perfectionist’ who joined the yachting industry six years ago.

Katie will shake up the new season alongside returning cast member Malia White, who is back for a third time.

The new season promises plenty of drama, and will feature ‘a shocking franchise first’ and ‘a serious crisis’.

Meanwhile, former Chief Stew Hannah recently criticised her old boss Sandy and accused her of having an ego problem.

‘It was very difficult from the start because I think she kind of joined the boat and definitely wanted to be top dog,’ she told the Real House Husbands podcast.

‘Which is fine, you’re the captain, I understand that. But I was just there to do my job and it just felt like a lot of the time it was quite difficult because I felt like she was very much trying to find fault with what I was doing.’

Hannah continued: ‘She really enjoys the ego boost from her crew. And I’m a bit more like, “Hey, I’m just here to do my job.”‘
