    In a statement, West Midlands police said it is understood the teenager was attacked “by up to seven offenders, who ran off”. Detective Inspector Ranj Sangha, from the force’s homicide unit, described it as a “shocking and senseless tragedy”.

    The boy was killed in the Kingstanding area.

    The incident happened on College Road at the junction with Wardour Grove around 7.30pm.

    The force statement said: “We have immediately launched a murder investigation and have flooded the area with officers to search for the offenders.

    “We understand the teen was attacked on College Road at the junction with Wardour Grove around 7.30pm by up to seven offenders, who ran off towards Chester Road.

    “We are currently speaking to witnesses and fast-tracking CCTV enquiries.”
