Brendan Fevola made some huge bets during his gambling days.

And on Monday, the 40-year-old former AFL star recalled one of his riskiest on his Fifi, Fev and Nick radio show.

Brendan admitted he almost lost $22,000 during a game of ‘credit card roulette’ 15 years ago at a long lunch at Crown casino in Melbourne with high profile mates, cricketer Shane Warne and professional poker player Joe Hachem.

Brendan insisted he was only carrying one hundred dollars at the time, given to him by his wife Alex as he didn’t plan on gambling much.

During the lunch, Brendan ordered a $30 steak and no alcohol as he was playing football for Carlton at the time.

‘The bill came to $22,000,’ he said to the disbelief of his co-hosts Fifi Box and Nick Cody. ‘Because the boys were drinking. They all been drinking $1000 dollar bottles of red.’

‘There was like 20 of us. There was a lot of people. It was all the poker players,’ he continued.

‘It was card roulette. Everyone had to put their credit cards into a bowl. I had my debit card, wasn’t even a credit card. I put it in, I was that nervous.’

‘Whoever drew that card paid for the bill,’ the former footballer recalled, revealing Joe Hachem’s credit card was pulled.

‘He paid for the whole lot,’ Brendan said, before explaining that it was the ‘third time in a row’ Hachem had been out for lunch and was forced to pay.

‘I didn’t really know there was too much wrong, I was in my own bubble doing what I thought was something I loved which was footy,’ he told the What’s Your Problem podcast.

‘Then I got injured and a lot of things happened in my life, as you said separation is a key factor, my wife left me.’

The former footballer checked into the New Farm mental health clinic at the beginning of 2011.

‘I was supposed to be in there for seven days, ended up being there for about 70 so there were a few issues going on that I didn’t really know about cause I never spoke about it, it was all bottled up inside,’ he said.
