He wrote alongside the picture: ‘My Mum would have been 100 years old today. Here we are in a happy moment on Worthing (I think) beach in the late 1950s.

‘I’m trying to work out whether gazing at this makes me happy or sad right now. Thanks for the lovely colorising, @blueprintblues. Happy Birthday dear Mum. Bri’.

Brian’s mother died suddenly at 76 of an aneurysm, 10 years after the musician lost his father, Harold, in 1991 to cancer.

He spoke about the impact his father had in an interview with The Guardian back in 2014.

Brian said at the time: ‘I hope he’d be proud. Since he died, I’ve become a person who tries to make a difference to the world, and not just through music. I think he’d smile, nod his head and say “Yes, son, you’ve done the right thing”

The post comes after Brian called Eric Clapton a ‘fruitcake’ after the Wonderful Tonight hitmaker refused to play venues where proof of immunisation from Covid-19 was necessary.

Asked about Eric’s view and anti-vaxxers as a whole, Brian told The Independent: ‘I love Eric Clapton, he’s my hero, but he has very different views from me in many ways.

‘Anti-vax people, I’m sorry, I think they’re fruitcakes. There’s plenty of evidence to show that vaccination helps. On the whole they’ve been very safe.’

He added there will always be some side effects in any drug, and those who go around saying vaccines are a plot to kill you go ‘in the fruitcake jar’ for him.

Brian also blasted UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his decision-making during the pandemic and insisted some of his antics have been ‘completely unacceptable’.

He fumed: ‘At every point he did too little, too late. Hundreds, if not thousands of our relatives died because of bad advice and because of the bad decisions that Boris made with Hancock and those other people.’

Brian added that he believes if Boris had shut the borders a year earlier, the country wouldn’t have have ended up the way it did.
