‘I haven’t heard from them but I’m not going to cry!’ Bruno Tonioli reveals NO Strictly judges have contacted him since his departure and vows not to watch his replacement Anton Du Beke

Strictly’s Bruno Tonioli has revealed none of his fellow judges have contacted him since he stepped down from the upcoming series.

Last month, it was revealed that the show’s longest-serving pro Anton Du Beke would step into Bruno’s shoes to act as judge alongside Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, and Craig Revel Horwood – none of whom have been in touch.

As well as shedding insight into his lack of communication with his co-stars, Bruno, 65, insisted he will not watch Anton on the show, saying: ‘Watching Anton would be not fair. It’d be weird, like watching an ex with someone new’.

In June, BBC confirmed Anton, 54, would make the step up to a judging seat this year for the entire series following a successful two-week stint as a panellist last year.

He will replace Bruno, who will not be able to take part in the 19th series due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding travel restrictions caused by COVID-19.

Despite his lengthy stint on the panel, Bruno insists he has not been in cahoots with his former colleagues – with his departure met with radio silence.

He said: ‘I haven’t heard from them. But I’m not going to cry, we all have very separate lives. And they have given very supportive messages in the Press…

‘I will see Craig anyway because of our ITV project together. The girls are fine — we’re all pros. Ultimately, they all know that the priority is to make the show work.’

On watching Anton, he went on: ‘Watching Anton would be not fair. It’d be weird, like watching an ex with someone new — you just get on with it honey…

‘It’ll do me no good as people will ask me what I think and I don’t want to stick my nose in when I’m not part of it. I think it’s very naff.’

When the news was announced, Anton said: ‘My loves I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be stepping into Bruno’s brogues for the next series of ‘Strictly’…

‘It’s a dream come true to be judging alongside the best of the best and I promise to be kinder to all the couples than any of them have ever been to me.’

The announcement was made via the official BBC Strictly account, as dazzling portraits of the judges were shared alongside the words: ‘It’s the judges!…

‘Please welcome back to Strictly, Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse AND Anton Du Beke, who’ll be stepping into Bruno Tonioli’s shoes for 2021!’

Bruno – who has been a ‘Strictly’ judge since 2004 – said at the time he was ‘gutted’ about missing the show, but is ‘so excited’ to see Anton on the programme.

He added: ‘Whilst I am gutted to not be on the show this year there is one person and one person only that could take my place – it’s just a shame they weren’t available … ha ha.

‘Darlings, I’m kidding, I’m kidding! Seriously though, I have to tell you, Anton is Mr Strictly and if anybody is filling in for me, it has to be him. I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way and I am so excited to see him waggle his paddle.’
