Busy Philipps revealed earlier this month that her 12-year-old Birdie identifies as ‘femme-presenting-nonbinary’ after they came out at the age of 10.

The 41-year-old actress and her child are celebrating the start of Pride Month by giving back to a local LGBTQIA+ center that supported their family over the years, she revealed in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

In the social media message, the actress gushed over Birdie who has been collecting ‘hundreds’ of beauty and hygiene products that are sent for free to Busy and her influencer friends to donate.

‘Today is the start of PRIDE MONTH! I have so much pride for this kid and everything they are and do,’ Busy gushed on Instagram.

She posed for a series of snaps in a special black T-shirt that had the word ‘family’ painted in multiple colors alongside Birdie who sported a series of funky green clips in her hair.

‘The t-shirt I’m wearing is by @thehaasbrothers x @citizensofhumanity in honor of Pride 2021 and 100% of the retail selling price of every t-shirt sold will be donated to LA’s LGBTQIA+ center,’ Busy wrote.

Adding: ‘The @lalgbtcenter has been incredibly helpful to my family in the last several years, offering support and education and a sense of community.’

Along with the selfies, Busy shared photos of plastic storage bins, cardboard boxes and bags full of items that Birdie collected to donate to the center.

‘One incredible thing Birdie did last year (that I would like to brag about right now),’ the proud mom beamed, ‘is that after seeing all of the beauty products that I was sent by brands that went unused or given away, Birdie decided to start gathering the unopened makeup and hygiene items from me and other influencer types (actors, singers, makeup and hair artists) to donate to the @lalgbtcenter for the queer and trans youth that the Center provides a safe space for.’

‘Well. Thanks to many of my friends, Birdie was able to donate HUNDREDS of items to the center,’ she continued, adding: ‘HAPPY PRIDE MY LOVES!!!’

Earlier this month, Philipps revealed that Birdie identifies as ‘femme-presenting nonbinary’.

The former Dawson’s Creek discussed her child’s gender identity the June issue of Health magazine while promoting her new Peacock series Girls5eva.

This comes after Philipps – who also has a seven-year-old daughter Cricket with director husband Marc Silverstein – shared on her podcast last year that Birdie came out to her at the age of 10.

In the Health interview, Busy shared Birdie’s identity when touching on wellness.

'Well. Thanks to many of my friends, Birdie was able to donate HUNDREDS of items to the center,' she continued, adding:'HAPPY PRIDE MY LOVES!!!'

‘Expectations to take care of other people are put on girls from a very young age—I should say girls or femme-presenting kids. That’s what Birdie is, femme-presenting nonbinary,’ said Philipps.

She also relayed to writer Bethany Heitman that she had to explain to her mother Barbara Philipps, ‘You don’t have to understand it.’

On talking about Birdie’s pronouns and being nonbinary: ‘My mom is older and wants to understand the pronoun conversation more.’

‘I said to my mother, “Here’s the deal: “You don’t have to understand it.” That’s how I feel about all human rights—you don’t have to understand it. You can choose to believe what you want, but you don’t get to have jurisdiction over anyone else’s body or belief system.’

In January, the star said on her show Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best that Birdie was ‘gay and out.’

She added on the podcast episode, ‘Birdie told us at 10 years old and we immediately… I mean, obviously, I knew that Birdie knew.’

Philipps also shared that Birdie prefers they/them pronouns.
