Camilla Franks returns to Australian Fashion Week – and reveals fashion sense has gotten 'darker'

Camilla Franks debuted her new collection at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2021 on Friday, after a three year break.

The 45-year-old, who is known as ‘Kaftan Queen’, not only left her trademark kaftan at home and showed up in an edgy black jumpsuit, her new collection also followed a darker theme.

And Camilla, who has been battling battling breast cancer, says her designs have moved away from the bursts of colour she is known for as they reflect her journey.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia the fashion icon said: ‘I think my tone’s definitely gotten darker with designing.

‘I went into wearing all black – all black, all black, all black. There’s definitely less print. I’m pulling a lot more colour out of my prints and sometimes they say less is more, where I’ve always been more is more.

‘So I think with my collections now you’ll see prints that are still my traditional Camilla DNA and handwriting, but I think you can see me evolving because of my emotional and physical journey.’

After a few difficult years, Camilla said she feels ‘blessed’ to return to Fashion Week with a new collection.

‘To see what’s happened in three years… I had a daughter, got breast cancer, nearly lost my life, had the ovaries removed, gone through Covid.

‘And then just to be here in this space… I feel like I’ve navigated my way through things I never thought I’d have to navigate through and come out the other end. I just feel so blessed,’ she said.

She added:'I went into wearing all black - all black, all black, all black. There's definitely less print. I'm pulling a lot more colour out of my prints and sometimes they say less is more, where I've always been more is more'
