Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel can copy Antonio Conte trick to overcome Romelu Lukaku problem

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel may look to copy Antonio Conte to ensure he gets the most out of his leading man Romelu Lukaku. The striker returned to Stamford Bridge this summer after a prolific spell with Inter Milan.

Lukaku rediscovered his golden touch under Conte at Inter following a difficult spell at Manchester United.

During 95 games for the Italian giants, Lukaku racked up an impressive 64 goals and helped his side storm to the Serie A title last season.

And it was Conte’s astute management which helped the Belgium forward make the most of his potential in Italy.

Following Lukaku’s arrival at Inter, Conte opted to play the forward alongside Argentina international Lautaro Martinez.

The duo formed a formidable relationship and proved a real menace for even the best defences in Serie A.

During two seasons playing alongside each other, Lukaku and Martinez scored a sensational 78 goals.

But he looked isolated against Zenit as he continued to lead the line on his own.

If Premier League teams don’t need to deal with a second striker, they may look to nullify Lukaku’s threat by asking two defenders to mark him.

That level of attention could seriously thwart Lukaku’s impact and prevent Chelsea being as free-scoring as they have been.

But Tuchel could solve that problem by utilising Lukaku in a front two.

Tuchel has a plethora of attacking talent at his disposal and Timo Werner could be the man to form a potent partnership with Lukaku.

Werner found life in the Premier League tough going during his debut campaign and hasn’t started a Premier League game since Lukaku’s arrival.

But he notched three times for Germany during the international break and possesses blistering pace and excellent movement.

Werner’s inclusion could be a real handful for opposition defences, allowing Lukaku the time and space he needs to keep banging in the goals.

“I am sure that we will find games and solutions where we play with both of them,” Tuchel recently said when asked about a partnership between the two frontmen.

“We did already and Timo and Romelu can be a good fit together. Timo loves to play around a reference up front and Romelu is clearly our reference up front being a tall and physical player.”

Tuchel is likely to stick with Lukaku on his own for now. But if the striker does start to get marked out of matches, a two-man attack could soon be the order of the day at Stamford Bridge.
