While the plot for the upcoming fourth installment in The Matrix franchise has been kept under wraps for the most part, more details about the cast are being revealed.
According to a recent casting announcement from Warner Bros. reported by Collider, Christina Ricci is the latest actor to be added to the much-anticipated sequel, tentatively titled The Matrix 4.
So far details of her character remain unknown but she joined an already star-studded cast that includes no less than five franchise favorites, including Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss.

Since the science fiction action film wrapped principal shooting back in November 2020, Ricci’s role was either part of the storyline all along and it was kept quiet, or she’s involved in some additional scenes during post-production.
The Matrix 4 was co-written, directed and produced by Lana Wachowski, who co-directed and co-wrote the three previous films with her sister Lilly Wachowski.
Ricci, 41, previously worked with Wachowski in the sports action comedy film Speed Racer (2008).
Along with Reeves (Neo) and Moss (Trinity), the cast of originals also includes Jada Pinkett-Smith (Niobe), Daniel Bernhardt (Agent Johnson) and Lambert Wilson (The Merovingian).

Ricci stars alongside newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra and Jonathan Groff, among others.
Most recently, Ricci scored one of the lead roles in the upcoming coming-of-age drama series Yellowjackets (2021) and the Duplass Brothers’ show Cinema Toast (2021).
She most recently starred in the biographical drama Percy (2020) and 10 Things We Should Do Before We Break Up (2020).

Two successful sequels followed: The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003), grossing $739.4 million and $427.3 million, respectively.
Production on the latest film began in February 2020 but was temporarily halted for about five months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Matrix 4 is now slated to be released in theaters and stream on HBO Max simultaneously in the United States for a month beginning on December 22, 2021.
