Cleaning: The £1 item which could leave your kitchen sink 'shining for weeks'

While the kitchen sink is generally used for cleaning used pots, pans and other utensils, over time it can end up becoming one of the dirtiest appliances in the kitchen. Homeowners with stainless steel or enamel sinks, in particular, may be left wondering how to achieve the fresh shine their sink once had when it was new.

How to clean your kitchen sink with baby oil

The first step, before applying your baby oil, is to ensure that your sink is rid of any germs or bacteria.

You can do this by using your normal cleaning product spray, wiping it down afterwards with a damp cloth.

Next, when applying the baby oil to the surface of your kitchen sink, be sure to use a soft cloth or rag.

The Dr Beckmann expert said: “Rub a small amount of baby oil around the base and on the sides of the sink and watch as your sink is left shining for weeks.”

After applying, use a dry cloth to gently buff the oil off.

In the event not all stains and marks are removed on the first attempt, repeat the process again.

Much like baby oil, olive oil can be used in the same way to remove smudges and scuffs from your sink.

Is baby oil good for cleaning anything else?

Baby oil can also be used to remove smudges and stains from other stainless steel surfaces around the home.

However, it is important to note that just as with the kitchen sink, using baby oil will not sanitise surfaces so it is important to thoroughly clean them first.

Some appliances and household items which baby oil can be used to clean and shine include:

    • Stainless steel fridges
    • Stainless steel hobs and ovens
    • Microwave and dishwasher doors
    • Golf clubs
    • Light switches
    • Preventing soap scum build-up in the shower
