Cody Rigsby reveals why he isn’t dancing with another man on Dancing With the Stars: ‘I didn’t even think it was a possibility so I didn’t bring it up!’

Season 30 of Dancing With the Stars ushered in a historic first, with the first same-sex dancing pairing of JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson.

The season also features gay Peleton instructor Cody Rigsby, who performed the first ‘virtual’ dance when he and partner Cheryl Burke came down with COVID-19.

The 34-year-old was asked in a new interview with GLAAD why he didn’t consider dancing with a male partner, with Rigsby revealing he didn’t even think about it.

‘When the conversation opportunity came up for DWTS, I was just so excited to be on the show, I guess I didn’t even think it was a possibility, so I didn’t bring it up!’ Rigsby said.

‘Had I maybe had a moment to breathe and recognize an opportunity, I definitely would have asked!” Cody continued.

He added that he knows pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, ‘is really open to having a same sex partner for next season and I think that would be incredible!’

Both Rigsby and Siwa are still alive in the competition, meaning it’s possible that they could both square off in an all LGBTQ+ finale.

‘I think that would be an amazing finale! She’s incredible, what she is doing on this show, representing (the LGBTQ community) is amazing,’ Rigsby said.

‘She is showing a lot of little girls and little boys who they can be and giving them permission to create their own path. She is just so wildly herself in so many ways’ Rigsby added.

‘For her to jump into this space that’s not comfortable, not her home base, that already has a lot of courage,’ Rigsby added.

‘And then to (dance) with another woman, recently after coming out, it’s really new to her and she is really jumping into it head first. Typical JoJo Siwa fashion!’ he said.

Rigsby still managed to stave off survival despite both him and his partner Cheryl Burke catching COVID-19, as they both pulled off special dances from their homes.

The duo returned to the Dancing With the Stars set in early October, after quarantining in their homes for nearly a month.

‘I’m just really grateful that despite everything that’s happened in the last several days, we’ve been able to pivot and stay in the competition virtually for this week,’ Burke told People.

‘We’ve been given a really unique opportunity and challenge for Britney week and while it may seem like performing remotely has its advantages, I will say this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do!’ she added.
