Colin Jost welcomed his first child with wife Scarlett Johansson, a baby boy named Cosmo.
But there was one person who was left scratching their head over the name – his mother, Kerry Kelly.
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Colin, 39, revealed his mother was ‘slightly thrown by’ the moniker and even asked if it was final.

‘My mom, I would say, was slightly thrown by it and didn’t quite understand it,’ Colin admitted.
‘I don’t know if she thought it was kind of, like, a hippie thing… She would call us and say, you know, after three or four days, she’d be like, “Cosmo… And now, is it final? Like, did you submit the birth certificate?” And we’re like, “Oh, yeah, we did that at the hospital.”
Still, Kerry continued to offer variations of the name
‘She was like, “OK, interesting. Because I was reading that there’s also a name Cosimo with an ‘I’, so that could also be an option. Maybe Cosimo, that’s his real name, but then you can call him still Cosmo.”‘

But once Kerry met people with relatives named Cosmo, she came to accept the name.
‘She lives in Staten Island, eventually she started meeting various members of the Italian community who have a lot of Cosmo relatives,’ Colin explained.
‘She would call, and she would say, “I met someone. They said their uncle’s name is Cosmo. So it is OK,”‘ he said. ‘Then she goes, “There’s a patron saint called Cosmos, so that’s another option.” We don’t need more worse options, variants on Cosmo. But thanks, Mom.”‘
Colin announced the birth of their son Cosmo back in August, writing on Instagram: ‘Ok ok we had a baby. His name is Cosmo. We love him very much.’

Her rep also confirmed to People that she had ‘recently’ welcomed her child.
Johansson, 36, is already mother daughter Rose Dorothy, seven, – with French journalist ex-husband Romain Dauriac.
News of her pregnancy first came in early July, after the actress sparked rumours she was expecting when she skipped out on several events for her Marvel flick Black Widow.
Johansson and Jost were first linked in the spring of 2017 after she hosted the longstanding variety show.
He proposed in May 2019 with a stunning 11-carat light brown diamond and the ring is estimated to be worth $450K.
And though their wedding plans got derailed on account of the pandemic, they chose to move forward with an understated ceremony in October 2020 at the actress’ home in Palisades, New York.
