Dax Shepard has two women in his life.
The actor/podcast host joked about juggling his relationships with wife Kristen Bell and his Armchair Expert co-host Monica Padman on Thursday night while visiting Jimmy Kimmel Live with Padman.
Talking about the unique dynamic, Shepard, 46, said Monica was part of a ‘three-way marriage’ with him and Kristen.

‘Well, we were in a three-way marriage,’ the actress specified after Jimmy asked if she was ‘the third wheel in Dax and Kristen’s tricycle of love’.
And when Kimmel pressed to find out whether there was anything sexual in the arrangement, Dax replied, ‘Unfortunately not.
‘It’s all the responsibilities of two wives without the sex!’
‘…Yet,’ Padman coyly added.
Continuing with the joke, Dax later chimed in by saying that his marriage to The Good Place actress ‘would fall apart’ without Monica.

And in fact, Padman even lived with the couple and their two daughters at the start of the pandemic, since they were working together and part of the same ‘pod’.
Later though, she said she picked up and left because ‘it hit critical mass a month in’ when Kristen got sick and Dax injured his hand at the same time.
‘And then I was there like, “Oh, I have to take care of all of these children while they’re on vacation?” Okay…Bye!’ she joked.
Dax added, ‘It was abrupt. She just, like, entered the living room and she had all of her belongings.’
In fact: Padman even lived with the couple at the start of the pandemic, since they were working together and part of the same ‘pod’ for their podcast Armchair Expert
‘Like many marriages in quarantine, ours ended in divorce,’ Monica jokingly concluded.
And Shepard later mentioned as an aside, perhaps in an effort to put to rest any rumors, that he and Bell ‘are not bed-hoppers’.
Dax and Kristen, meanwhile, have been married for more than seven years and have been together as a couple for 13, and are parents to two daughters.
Recently, they have incorporated couples therapy into their lives, as well as an open and honest policy in an effort to preserve their marriage.

Part of that honest approach includes being able to talk about their attraction to other people — both male or female – as Kristen revealed to Self last month.
The Frozen star discussed how she and Dax have open conversations about their attraction to other people.
‘He can tell me someone he finds attractive, female or male, ’cause he pauses the Olympics on a lot of runners, but it doesn’t make me feel like he’s going to leave me for that person because I’m not allowing my self-esteem to be affected,’ the Veronica Mars alum explained.
‘I know there are people on Planet Earth that are more attractive than me, and well, we’re not dead. I have to acknowledge we’re monkeys.’
