Earlier this week Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki clashed with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in the European Parliament after Poland’s high court ruled that parts of EU law are in direct conflict with its own constitution.
Ms Von der Leyen said: “We have been concerned about the independence of the [Polish] judiciary for some time.
“Unfortunately the situation has worsened.”
The Polish Prime Minister responded to this by saying his country “will not be intimidated”, adding that the highest law in Poland is its constitution.
