Boxing fans have been left outraged after the Floyd Mayweather vs Deji Olatunji pay-per-view price was announced. Mayweather takes on Deji in his fifth exhibition showcase on November 13 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
Not long ago, DAZN claimed that ‘pay-per-view is dead’ when they burst onto the boxing scene. But after multiple fee-paying events over the last year, the streaming service is putting on yet another PPV show.
Mayweather’s post-retirement bout against YouTuber Deji will cost existing subscribers in the United Kingdom and the United States £16.99 or $14.99 alongside their monthly subscription fee (£7.99/$19.99).
Fans are less than impressed by the decision and have let their thoughts be known on social media. @Kreestoph274639 tweeted: “How are DAZN charging for an exhibition (play) fight between a YouTuber and retired fighter? It’s supposed to be a mechanism only used for the mega fights.”
Since retiring from professional boxing in 2017, Mayweather has continued fighting in exhibition bouts across the globe. TBE previously fought kickboxing ace Tenshin Nasukawa, YouTuber Logan Paul, former sparring partner Don Moore, and MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura.
His latest opponent, Deji, has a 1-3 record in boxing. The Brit recently snapped his three-fight losing streak with a points win over fellow content creator Fousey and comes in as a sizeable underdog.
On the undercard, Tommy Fury makes his ninth professional outing against Paul Bamba while Nigel Benn’s son Harley is also set to feature.
