Floyd Mayweather was left fuming after Jake Paul stole his hat during a face-off at a press conference for his fight against Logan Paul, and one figure associated with the 44-year-old has admitted he’s “never seen him that angry”.
Mayweather will take on YouTuber turned boxer Logan Paul on June 6 in an exhibition bout.
The undefeated former multiple-weight world champion isn’t expected to have much trouble with dealing with the social media megastar.
Paul has only fought once as a professional, losing to YouTube rival KSI on a split decision in 2019.
It’s the second exhibition bout Mayweather has had since he beat Conor McGregor in 2017 in his last professional fight, but is unlikely to be his last.
After the press conference for the fight against Logan, Mayweather was seen getting into a face-off with the younger of the two brothers, Jake.
Jake Paul is set to face Tyron Woodley in his next fight after beating former UFC fighter Ben Askren, but is believed to be angling for a fight against Mayweather.
The two almost came to blows when they came face to face, as Paul took the cap off Mayweather’s head, with the all-time-great threatening to “kill” the YouTuber.
And Stephen Espinoza, Showtime’s President of Sports who has worked with Mayweather for a number of years, has admitted he’s never seen the boxer as angry as he was after the incident with Paul.
He went on to compare the face-to-face to when Mayweather went up against McGregor on their world press tour.
“I have never seen him that angry,” Espinoza said.
“Not even in the McGregor press tour, when it was very personal.
“It was not arranged or pre-planned by Floyd or his team. I think Jake very much had it pre-planned and capitalised in his own unique way. From the tattoo to the merchandise, to everything he made out of it.
“From Floyd, I think that in some of the same way that the McGregor press tour changed the perception of that event. It went from being a circus to realising there’s real animosity there.
“[The Jake incident] has layered on a little more motivation for both sides.
“Floyd felt disrespected. He was very angry.
“He’s not that good an actor, to be quite honest, to show that level of wrath on command for something he wasn’t really angry about, so very much so, it angered him.”
