NIO, DS, Jaguar, Audi and Mercedes Benz are other manufacturers which have launched electric cars alongside their Formula E programme.

Formula E themselves even proudly claims the series will bring “racing tech to the road” and will “pave the way for the cars of tomorrow”.

The 2016/17 Formula E champion Lucas Di Grassi has previously said the “pace of development was “incredible” in the electric car market.

He has hinted the time at which electric cars are “cheaper, safer and easier to operate” than petrol and diesel models were “not far away” with Formulas E “accelerating that process”.
