General Hospital star Kirsten Storms shares update after brain surgery to remove cyst

General Hospital star Kirsten Storms took to Instagram on Sunday with an update on her health after she underwent brain surgery after her doctor found ‘a very large cyst that had split into two’ after she sought treatment for severe neck pain.

‘First, thank you for all of the well wishes I’ve received over the last few days,’ the 37-year-old actress said following the procedure. She said she’s dealt with ‘random health issues’ in recent years that she disregarded as aging or medication side effects.

The Orlando native said her ‘amazingly thorough orthopedist’ ordered an MRI of her head, at which point doctors ‘stumbled upon a rather large, very full of fluid, cyst that was attached to the lower portion of brain.’

She said that she felt fortunate that her situation ‘wasn’t more serious and that [she] had a wonderful neurosurgeon who immediately knew how to fix it.’

She continued, ‘I’m not gonna lie, brain surgery had me nervous, but I’m immensely thankful to my family, friends, and incredible “work family” who have been supportive, kind and loving during a time when I’ve been feeling a lot of emotions.’

Storms, who’s played Maxie on the soap opera since 2005, said that work ‘is a great place to be everyday’ and that she’s ‘found a lot of comfort’ around cast and crew ‘for so many years.’

Storms, who’s also been seen in Clubhouse and Days of Our Lives, said she was ‘excited to get back to it after [her] recovery.’

She said that she felt fortunate that her situation ‘wasn’t more serious and that [she] had a wonderful neurosurgeon who immediately knew how to fix it’

She noted that medical staff ‘shaved a portion of [her] head’ to perform the procedure, adding, ‘Please no comments if you don’t like my hair. It’s temporary.’

The one-time Disney Channel star opened up about the procedure she underwent in a post Friday, providing details on the procedure she underwent.

‘What they had to drain and remove was not cancer – I want to clarify that right now before the internet goes crazy wild with rumors about this,’ said Storms, who said she will ‘be on the mend for the next several weeks’ amid her recovery.
