'Glory for Britain!' Tom Pidcock wins gold to join greats of Chris Hoy and Bradley Wiggins

Tom Pidcock has won gold at the Tokyo Olympics this morning in the men’s mountain bike cross-country race in Japan. Team GB are looking to better their medal haul from the same competition in Rio five years ago. And things on Monday have got off to a positive start.

Pidcock crossed the finish line to bring home Great Britain’s third gold medal of the games so far.

And his victory follows triumphs for Tom Daley and Matty Lee in the synchronised diving, as well as for Adam Peaty in the Men’s 100m breaststroke.

It’s been a golden morning for team GB so far.

And commentator Rob Hatch reacted by saying: “Adding to a golden day for Great Britain

“World number 49 – he has hammered home into the world number one!

“He was a favourite but not the favourite.”
