Hailee opened up about what fans can expect from her upcoming music as she graced the December/January cover of the magazine, and addressed if it would once again touch on themes of heartbreak and angst as her last offering did.

She explained: ‘Toward the beginning of the pandemic, I released that EP and was very proud because I felt like I had articulated this pain I was feeling that at one point, I felt like I couldn’t put into words. What I was going through was like, I don’t wanna talk about this. I don’t want people to know.’

She told that in making her music she had her ‘little angry, sad girl moment’ and that release was what she needed to make more upbeat tracks that would help people ‘dance and feel good’.

The Dickinson star, who stunned in sizzling ensembles in a photoshoot for the magazine, went on: ‘I’m in a place right now where I’m pretty sure I know what I want for me, in relationships, work, and life in general. So that’s what I’m after. I’m painting the picture of what all that looks like.

She said: ‘I want a partner who is, first and foremost, loyal and honest but confident in themselves and able to do their thing while I do mine. It’s weird talking about it because it’s been in my head for so long.’

It comes after Hailee rang in 2020 with a new song that seemingly called out her ex-boyfriend Niall for cheating on her.

The track, released through her YouTube page on New Year’s Eve 2019 dubbed Wrong Direction, doesn’t mention her ex boyfriend by name, but it strongly hints he cheated on her.

She begins the melodic track by stating, ‘I don’t hate you,’ adding that she couldn’t if she wanted to, but, ‘I just hate all the hurt that you put me through.’

‘And that I blame myself for letting you/Did you know that I already knew?’ she continues.

‘Couldn’t even see you through the smoke/Lookin’ back, I probably should have known, but I just wanted to believe that you were out sleepin’ alone,’ she sings.

She doesn’t reveal who Horan may have been cheating on her with, but it’s clear that she was hurt by the ordeal.

Hold me with your worst intentions, paint it as a happy ending, every time you burn me down, don’t know how,’ she adds.

‘For a moment it felt like heaven, and it’s so gut-wrenchin’, fallin’ in the wrong direction,’ Steinfeld sings.

She also sings about Horan’s ego, stating, ‘On my tip-toes, but I still couldn’t reach your ego, guess I was crazy to give you my body, my mind.’

Hailee and Niall were first romantically linked in November 2017. While both chose to never publicly confirm their relationship, pictures later surfaced of the duo kissing while in public.

A year later, it was reported the pair had split, with sources blaming Hailee’s ‘insanely busy schedule’.
