Harry's gratitude when Charles stepped in to walk down the aisle – 'Whatever Meghan needs'

But previous public comments indicate they once had a much stronger bond. The Duke famously asked his father to walk Meghan down the aisle for their 2018 wedding, and told of his immense gratitude.

Speaking on the documentary ‘Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70’, Harry said: “I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming, and he immediately said ‘yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you.’

“For him that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he’s our father so of course he’s going to be there for us.”

Harry’s positive tone is much the same as when he attended a Buckingham Palace garden party with wife Meghan to mark his father’s 70th birthday.

Harry made a warm speech praising his father for work on climate change and other issues.

He told the audience: “His enthusiasm and energy are truly infectious; it has certainly inspired William and I to get involved in issues we care passionately about and to do whatever we can to make a difference.

“In fact, many of the issues William and I now work on are subjects we were introduced to by our father growing up.”

His evident affection for Charles and the positive impact on the younger princes has been overshadowed somewhat by recent remarks.

The Duke of Sussex has this month detailed problems he feels he encountered with Charles’ parenting style.

Harry also told Oprah Winfrey in March there is “a lot to work through” with Charles after Megxit, hinting at a major fallout between the pair.

Speaking to Ms Winfrey on AppleTV+’s ‘The Me You Can’t See’, Harry said Charles raised the princes the way he was raised.

He claimed Charles said: “Well, it was like that for me, so it’s going to be like that for you”.

Harry gave his take on it: “That doesn’t make sense. Just because you suffered, it doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer. In fact, quite the opposite.”

    DON’T MISS…

Charles is said to be “absolutely gobsmacked” by the recent comments, according to a royal insider.

They told the Daily Mail: “No one within the Palace circles has anything but sympathy for Harry’s trauma and troubled life, but there is upset and discomfort at him sharing it on an international television show.”

Nick Bullen, editor in chief of True Royal TV, told US Weekly the Prince is “boiling with anger” over his son’s claims.
