'It made my skin crawl!' Prince William slammed for 'forceful' and 'shady' BBC demand

During the Royally Obsessed podcast, Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito discussed Prince William’s statement regarding Princess Diana’s 1995 Panorama interview with Martin Bashir. Ms Fiorito denounced the Duke of Cambridge’s call to never air the interview again, calling it “shady” and stating it made her “skin crawl”.

Ms Bowie said: “Do you think this programme should be aired again?

“That was an interesting part of Prince William’s statement as well, is he suggesting that it should never be aired again or he is suggesting that whenever you talk about it you should give the context?”

Ms Fiorito replied: “It sounds like he is pretty forcefully suggesting that it should not be aired again.

“I think that it should always be, it is part of our historical records of events that occurred.

“I do not think anything should be scrubbed from that record, that feels pretty shady.”

She added: “For the future king to suggest something like that, makes my skin crawl.

“I do not think any kind of removal from the artifacts of history should occur, that feels wrong.”

Earlier this month, the Duke of Cambridge released a statement criticising Martin Bashir for his conduct in securing the interview with his mother.

He continued: “But what saddens me most, is that if the BBC had properly investigated the complaints and concerns first raised in 1995, my mother would have known that she had been deceived.

“She was failed not just by a rogue reporter, but by leaders at the BBC who looked the other way rather than asking the tough questions.

“It is my firm view that this Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again.

“It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialised by the BBC and others.”
