EXCLUSIVE: James Argent’s TOWIE ban lifted paving the way for his return two years after failing drugs test as he lands cameo in Georgia Kousoulou and Tommy Mallett’s new spinoff show

James Argent’s TOWIE ban has been lifted paving the way for his return – two years after he failed a drugs test and was kicked off the series.

The reality favourite, 33, filmed a cameo appearance on Friday for co-stars Georgia Kousoulou and Tommy Mallett’s new spinoff show, which is being made by TOWIE producers.

It could mark the beginning of an upturn in fortunes for James, who had life-saving gastric band surgery in January after gaining 26 stone, and suffered two near-fatal overdoses as he battled cocaine addiction.

A TV insider told MailOnline: ‘James was thrilled to be back filming on Friday. He’s spent the last six months focusing on his mental and physical health and now finally he’s starting to feel the benefits.

‘His relationship with Lime Pictures is also on the up, which he hopes will one day mean he can rejoin TOWIE and put everything that’s happened in the past behind him.’

James joined close friends Georgia and Tommy, both 29, as they filmed the finale of their upcoming spinoff show, which will document them as new parents.

The couple, who welcomed son Brody in May, confirmed they have already finished shooting their ITVBe series, with Georgia saying on Instagram: ‘And that’s a wrap. Coming soon! We can’t wait for you to see our show, to be on this journey with us, so grateful for everything in my life.’

In May 2019, TOWIE severed ties with James, who first joined the series in 2010, after he tested positive for cocaine, five years after a similar incident saw him suspended.

A source at the time revealed Lime Pictures weren’t prepared to work with him anymore, after he had also filmed scenes for ex-girlfriend Gemma Collins’ show Diva Forever.

TOWIE producers enforced a break due to his partying back in 2014 and James checked into a Thai rehab facility three years later for his ‘mental and physical wellbeing.’

Last year James spoke about his battle with addiction and told how he hit ‘rock bottom’ after he had locked himself in his home and ‘took drugs for three days straight’ on his own.

He said: ‘I was at rock bottom. My heart was beating out of my chest, my nose was bleeding, I was shaking and my breathing was terrible.

‘My family were banging on the door screaming, “Open up” but I wasn’t answering the door to anyone. They feared I’d overdosed and was dead in the house.’

In January, James marked one year of sobriety, and last month revealed he’s at the halfway mark of his weight loss mission after shedding four stone since having his gastric band surgery.

He’s hoping to lose a total of eight stone after the procedure removed 70 per cent of his stomach.

James admitted to gaining the weight in lockdown after swapping drink and drug addiction for food, and that he couldn’t bear to look at his own reflection.

He said last month: ‘It felt horrible, I was always extremely uncomfortable, I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror.

‘It felt depressing and it just wasn’t me. Now I’m starting to feel like myself again and I’m excited about what the future is going to bring.

‘It was scary being 27 stone. It was serious, doctors were telling me how dangerous it was. I knew it was something I had to address pretty quickly.’
