Julianna Margulies on why she never hooked up with ER co-star George Clooney

ER alum Julianna Margulies revealed on Monday why she never hooked up with her onscreen love interest George Clooney while they co-starred in the NBC medical drama.

‘We always joke that thank god nothing ever happened because now we can remain friends for the rest of our lives,’ the 54-year-old native New Yorker explained on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

‘As he used to say, “You don’t s*** where you eat.”‘

Julianna pointed out how Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd ‘famously had sex’ while shooting the pilot of ABC’s Moonlighting back in 1985.

‘And then the show got picked up – and then they hated each other,’ Margulies dished.

‘Or David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson [on The X-Files]. The same thing happened. And then they hate each other and you’re stuck on a show for seven years together.

The Sunshine Girl author continued: ‘That’s agony. Life’s too short. You just want to have the crush keep going and going. And that’s what worked. And also, he’s just a super-awesome human being, and I love him’

The Sunshine Girl author scored an Emmy Award for her breakout role as County General Hospital nurse manager Carol Hathaway in the first six seasons of ER.

Julianna then proceeded to turn down a $27M contract to star in the seventh season back in 2000.

On the personal front, Julianna has a 13-year-old son Kieran Lindsay from her 13-year marriage to attorney Keith Lieberthal.
