Kate and Prince William 'keen' to provide 'any support they can' to 'knackered' Queen

The royals are prepared to step up further to help the Queen carry out her job, a source has claimed. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be ready to team up with Her Majesty when she is scheduled to attend in-person engagements, the source said.

They told the Telegraph: “If there is any way they can support Her Majesty on her engagements, they will.

“They are both keen to provide any support they can.”

Prince William is second-in-line while Kate, as his wife, is to become Queen Consort when the Duke accedes to the throne.

Over the past years, the Duke has taken upon himself a range of duties previously carried out by the Queen – including investiture ceremonies.

Moreover, he is said to have become more heavily involved in the running of the Balmoral and Sandringham estates and to be actively interested in the management of the Duchy of Cornwall, which he will inherit when Prince Charles becomes King.

The Cambridges’ support to the Queen would be part of a plan reported by the broadsheet publication, which could see one of the Queen’s working children or grandchildren accompany her to public engagements more in future.

Planning the sovereign’s schedule in a similar way would allow the accompanying royal to step in last minute for the Queen in the event of health scares.

This would not just spare disappointments among those who planned the engagements or were hoping to see members of the Royal Family but also hopefully gives the monarch the flexibility to step out of a scheduled visit to rest when she needs to.

The Queen was forced to cancel an in-person visit on October 20, when she was to travel to Northern Ireland to celebrate the centenary of the nation.

As announced by Buckingham Palace, her doctors had advised her to take a few days to rest, and she “reluctantly” obliged.

While it was first said the Queen was resting at Windsor Castle, on Thursday evening it was revealed Her Majesty had spent the night before at King Edward VII Hospital in London to carry out “preliminary investigations”.

    DON’T MISS

A source said the overnight stay was for “practical reasons”.

Her setback was understood not to be related to COVID-19, against which she has been vaccinated.

Concerns for the Queen’s health remained high over the past few days, as the Queen did not attend the traditional Sunday service at the All Saints Chapel near the castle and has not been seen walking her beloved dogs.

On Sunday, a source close to the 95-year-old sovereign told the Times the monarch is “knackered” due to her packed working schedule and busy social life.

But royal fans were relieved to see the Queen today, albeit on screen, when she held two audiences.

While staying at Windsor Castle, she spoke via video link with Gunn Kim, the ambassador from the Republic of Korea, and Markus Leitner, Switzerland’s new ambassador in London.

During these meetings, Her Majesty was pictured smiling and laughing while donning a bright yellow dress.

Prior to today’s engagement, the monarch reportedly carried out “light duties”, including receiving the Government’s red boxes on a daily basis.

Today’s appearance raises hopes the Queen will be able to travel to Glasgow next week.

On Monday, she is scheduled to attend a reception hosted for COP26.

Four other senior royals – Prince Charles, Camilla, Kate and William – are to attend the anticipated UN’s climate change summit.
