Kate Garraway goes out with her children for the first time since husband became sick from Covid

Kate Garraway was emotional on Tuesday when she enjoyed the first night out with children Darcey and William since her husband Derek Draper got Covid-19 a year ago.

Derek, 53, is still recovering at home from his lengthy battle with the illness which previously proved near-fatal and his left his body ravaged. 

Kate, 54, took Darcey, 15 and William, nine, to the Wonderville magic show’s opening night in the West End and wrote about how she was feeling on Instagram.

She shared a sweet selfie with her brood on Instagram, marking the moment. 

Her daughter was seen wearing a pale pink vest and a black necklace while William rocked a plaid top, beige shorts and a baseball cap. 

Kate peeked out from the corner of the frame wearing a blue floral top. The trio all sported face masks. 

The mother-of-two penned: ‘Well this was a moment – the first time the kids & I have been out to “something” other than school or work since Derek got sick. 

Illness: Derek was released from the hospital in March this year after being first diagnosed in March 2020 and he is considered to be the longest surviving Covid-19 patient in the country

‘It was a magic show we were supposed to be heading to when he was rushed into hospital – and we felt strange that we were going out to one when he isn’t ready to – YET. 

‘But it was so wonderful to see Darcey and Billy enthralled and mystified and enraptured – the magic of life returning. 

‘And I know that’s what Derek wants too. It was unnerving to be with so many people after so long and the kids were wide eyed and more than a little disorientated to be in the centre of London with all the buzz but excited too.’ [sic]

She continued: ‘I couldn’t believe my eyes welled up at the spirit and celebration and pure joy of the performers getting the chance to entertain again – magic back in the west end and in our lives @wondervillelive runs @thepalacetheatre til the end of August – catch it if you can and if not hooe you can find some magic in the madness.

Derek was released from the hospital in March this year after being first diagnosed in March 2020.

The virus wreaked havoc throughout his entire body, resulting in kidney failure, liver and pancreatic damage. 

On more than one occasion his heart stopped beating, he battled bacterial pneumonia and fought multiple infections which punctured holes in his lungs. 

He is considered to be the longest surviving Covid-19 patient in the country. The former lobbyist continues to recover from the illness at their London home. 

Kate also recently revealed that part of the property was flooded following torrential rain. 

The TV host said the disruption had been a ‘total nightmare and nuisance’ as the lower areas of the home were left underwater. 

Discussing the bad news on GMB, she explained to weather man Alex Beresford: ‘My weather week has been…I have lived the weather of the week, Alex.

‘Severe flooding in the storms on Monday night so woke up on Tuesday morning to find…we live on a hill – so you come in the door at one level and you go down the steps to the back garden – everything underneath completely flooded.’  

‘Completely flooded. Total nuisance. It”s been a total nightmare.’

The mother-of-two revealed that she had been helped by her close family members throughout the crisis, including husband Derek’s father.
