As the warm weather has finally hit the UK, many may be struggling to keep their house cool and sometimes, leaving the windows open or the fan on is just not enough.

Open the windows when it gets cooler

Only when the temperatures are going down towards the evening, open all the windows to let the cool air circulate around your house.

You can also keep them open during the night, as long as it is safe for you to do so.

    Keep the lights off

This is one of the best ways to drop the temperature in your house as by switching off the lights, you are reducing one of the main sources of heat.

Indoor plants are a great way to keep your house cool during the warmer months.

As part of their natural process, plants consume the hot air and release the excess water into the air from their leaves.

This is how they cool themselves and their surroundings creating a cooler environment in your house.

Chris Harvey, head of marketing at Stelrad, said: “The bowl of ice trick has been working extremely well for many throughout this heatwave.

“I know a lot of parents who swear by doing this in their babies rooms to keep them cool and sleeping through the night.

“The temperature will visibly decrease on your baby monitor a mere few minutes after putting the bowl of ice in front of a fan.

“I highly recommend it for any parent whose babies have been waking up due to being too warm,” he explained.
