    Keyshia Cole’s adoptive father Leon Cole, Jr. has died in the wake of entering a hospital amid complications from COVID-19.

    The singer-songwriter, 40, responded to condolences from a fan on Sunday who wrote to her, ‘I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your father!! I’m praying for you and your family during this difficult time!!’

    The Oakland native responded, ‘Thank you,’ amid the trying time for the family.

    On Friday, Cole’s adoptive mother Dr. Yvonne Cole took to Facebook to make the solemn announcement.

    ‘With a heart of sadness and sincere condolences, we solicit your prayers for Dr. Yvonne Cole and the Cole family in the passing of Mr. Leon Cole, Jr.’ she said in a statement on the social media site. ‘You are welcome to leave your prayers and any heart warming messages as they deal with the passing of Mr. Leon Cole Jr, due to COVID 19 complications. We appreciate the support for our family from around the world.’

    Yvonne had previously taken to the site on November 7 to reveal that Leon was in the ICU of a local hospital as he was ‘experiencing several health challenges due to COVID-19.

    ‘We ask that you send your support, love, well wishes and prayers of comfort and healing to Mr. Cole and his loved ones at this time,’ she said.

    The singer was adopted at the age of two by Leon and Yvonne, who remained close with Keyshia’s birth mother, Frankie Lons, who died this past July on her 61st birthday following a fatal drug overdose.

    Yvonne addressed Lons’ passing in a post this summer, writing, ‘Thank you for all your gracious prayers & kind gestures towards my family & I during this time. Also please remember to keep my daughter in your prayers.’

    Keyshia in July posted a series of shots on social media with her late mother, as she gave fans a candid look into her heavy emotions days after the family tragedy.

    ‘This is so hard man,’ Cole said. ‘Can’t really even find the words … I honestly don’t even know how to feel. You can never prepare for something like this… Ever!!! … but you will be missed.’

    She had kind words for fans who had sent warm feelings amid the somber time.

    ‘I would like to thank my fans + supporters, shooot your supporters and fans, for being here with us during these hard times, and the love that you all have for us…..the love for all your children was definitely felt,’ she said.

    She added, ‘Even through our differences …. WE LOVE YOU. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! Frank da bank!’

    Cole and her mother had a complicated relationship but eventually mended fences in later years.

    The singer touched on her mother’s battle with substance abuse, praising her for reaching sobriety for 60 days in March of 2020.

    In 2018, she wrote on Instagram: ‘Every time my mom relapse, it breaks my heart more than it’s already been broken. I’m hoping, if any of u are dealing with a family member who’s battling with drug addiction, that you, yourself are learning how to cope with the struggle of it all. And all the pain it brings to see a loved one constantly relapsing.’
