Kim Kardashian's neighbors denied bid to stop building 'underground vault' on her Hidden Hills home

A bid to halt construction on Kim Kardashian’s Hidden Hills property has been denied for the time being.

The Skims mogul, 41, has been at odds with the neighbors since she began plans to add various ‘underground’ features like parking, a guardhouse and a ‘wellness center’ to her Southern California sprawl.

In September a neighbor filed suit against the Hidden Hills Community Association in an attempt to block construction on Kardashian’s property, only to follow up with an emergency request to stop building while the lawsuit played out.

In a minor win for Kardashian’s side, the emergency request against the Community Association was dismissed by a judge on November 2nd, citing ‘no evidence of urgency or emergency,’ according to documents obtained by People.

Construction should continue until January, when an evidentiary hearing will take place to again consider whether the project should be stopped while the lawsuit continues.

According to the suit made by Hidden Hills resident Sarah Key, Kardashian’s construction plans for the $60million home include an ‘underground vault, subterranean parking, an attached subterranean “wellness center” and a detached guardhouse.’

But at the time of the initial suit in September sources close to Kim told TMZ that she has no plans to build a vault.

In her original September suit Key told the Community Association to stop Kardashian’s plan to ‘flatten two hills” and build upon ‘two high-pressure gas transmission lines,’ in favor of preserving the community’s ‘natural and rustic country setting.’

The filings added that building upon the gas lines would put ‘Hidden Hills community members at risk of catastrophic bodily injury and irreparable real personal property damage.’

However, insiders assured TMZ Kim’s building plans are being made in consultation with the housing association to make sure that they comply with all the rules.

Kim and her estranged husband Kanye West purchased the house for a reported $20 million in 2014.

They lived with her mother Kris Jenner while the property was undergoing renovations and they moved in to the estate in 2017.

Last year, Architectural Digest described the renovations on the home as transforming it from a ‘suburban McMansion’ to a ‘futuristic Belgian monastery.’

Although Kim was initially a fan of the mansion as is, Kanye took an active interest in reshaping its design, something he’d long had a passion for.

After meeting him in Europe, Kanye gave the Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt the job of creating the home’s all-white minimalist design.

‘When I saw the kind of work he was doing, I thought, This man could design Batman’s house. I had to work with him,’ Kanye said, adding, ‘It was a coup to get Axel to come to Calabasas to redo a McMansion, which is essentially what the house was.’

Although an all-white home might seem like a disaster waiting to happen with four small children, the spaciousness of the Hidden Hills home leaves plenty of options for North, eight, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Psalm, two.

‘The kids ride their scooters down the hallways and jump around on top of the low Axel tables, which they use as a kind of stage,’ Kanye explained.

But Kim added that they don’t treat their home like a temple, even if it might resemble one.

‘In the end, we don’t take it too seriously. We’re not going to be fanatics,’ she said.

In a 2019 Vogue story, writer writer Jonathan Van Meter described ‘Pentagon-like security’ that he had to go through before entering the home.

Kim has two kitchens inside the house, a ‘staff kitchen’ that the family uses day to day and a ‘show kitchen’ that she uses for entertaining.

The house is enormous even for a family of six, and Kim’s master bedroom was described as ‘the size of an airplane hangar,’ with a master bathroom that ‘offers a shower big enough for a basketball team.’

Kim and Kanye began dating in 2012 and were married in 2014 in Florence, Italy, but Kim filed for divorce in February.

She’s since been seen spending time with SNL funnyman Pete Davidson.
