The Deputy Labour leader accused the Conservative Government of “corruption” while political journalist Alex Wickham said that with only Tory MPs sitting on the committee they would be “marking their own homework”.

Ms Rayner tweeted: “Today the Tories voted to give a green light to corruption.

“Labour will not be taking any part in this sham process or any corrupt committee.

“The Prime Minister, Conservative Ministers and MPs have brought shame on our democracy.”

Her comments came as Mr Wickham leaked the information online.

He tweeted: “NEW: Senior Labour source confirms they will boycott the new committee

    “SNP also boycotting.

“So it will just be Tory MPs marking their own homework.

    “Oh dear.”
