Lewis Hamilton has thrown away the chance to take back the lead of the championship standings after making an uncharacteristic mistake on a red-flagged restart after title rival Max Max Verstappen hit the wall.

“I’m so sorry guys,” said Hamilton after a sensational red flag restart saw him side by side with Sergio Perez for the win in a two lap sprint race, with the Briton finishing 15th.

Verstappen will hold the lead of the championship standings, despite not even finishing the race.
