Lionel Messi has reportedly been the victim of a robbery in which thieves have stolen thousands of pounds worth of cash and jewellery. The raid allegedly took place last Wednesday at the five-star Le Royal Monceau hotel in Paris, according to The Sun.

It is reported that a gang scaled the outside of the building via the roof and entered via an unlocked balcony door.

Four other rooms were also targeted, with the thieves making off with thousands of pounds worth of valuables.

One female victim discovered her earrings, necklace and money was missing when she returned.

She told The Sun: “To pay a fortune for somewhere fancy and secure and have someone walk in your room is very disturbing.

“The police told us they saw two men with a bag on the roof on CCTV cameras but they could not identify them.

“They said three other robberies were also reported. A Moroccan guy in the next room told me he had his watch stolen.”

Shockingly, the hotel did not believe her until the police got involved.

“There has clearly been a very serious security breach and it’s being investigated,” a spokesperson said.

“There is evidence to suggest an experienced gang was responsible.”

Pep Guardiola praised his former star after his City side lost in their second group game of the Champions League campaign.

Having played under Guardiola for four years in Barcelona, the pair have a bond off the pitch after winning two Champions League titles together.

“We know it’s impossible to control Leo during 90 minutes but he was not much in touch with the ball,” said Guardiola.

“He was coming back from injury but we know quite well when he can run and get close to the box he is unstoppable. We did quite well to reduce those chances.”
