Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp fumes at Diego Simeone question in interview – 'I'm now angry'

Klopp’s side won an enthralling game 3-2 but the LaLiga outfit felt that they were the victims of several poor refereeing decisions.

Liverpool led 2-0 thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita, only for an Antoine Griezmann brace to peg them back.

But French striker Griezmann was then sent off by referee Daniel Siebert after connecting with Roberto Firmino’s head while trying to control a high ball.

Salah then scored a late winner but Atletico’s rage was intensified when Siebert awarded them a penalty, only to reverse his decision after consulting the VAR monitor.

Boss Simeone appeared to refuse to shake the hand of counterpart Klopp after the game, prompting a spat on the touchline.

Klopp walked away from the interview before the journalist could ask their next question.

However, he later clarified that he thought his side’s penalty was the correct decision. He also insisted Siebert was right to overturn the award of Atletico’s spot-kick.

“It was a tough game, come on!” the Liverpool boss told BT Sport.

“Honestly, how you win it, I couldn’t care less!

“The dirty [points] are the really important ones. On a night like this, getting three points is really massive.

“Our penalty is a penalty. And I think the other one is not a penalty, but I don’t see it very often when they take it back [to the pitchside monitor].

“I didn’t expect that, but I think it’s the right decision.”
