Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is set to sign a three-year contract with Barcelona, according to reports. Wijnaldum’s agent Humphry Nijman was pictured leaving the Nou Camp offices on Tuesday morning. The Holland international will leave Liverpool at the end of his contract this summer.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have been linked with Wijnaldum in the last 24 hours.

But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has tweeted the news that the player will be moving to Barca instead.

Romano wrote: “Gini Wijnaldum is set to join Barcelona as a free agent until June 2024 – there’s nothing agreed with FC Bayern, he wants to sign for Barca. Last details and… here we go soon!”

Wijnaldum played his final game for Liverpool in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield.

He was given a hero’s send-off after playing vital parts in the club’s Champions League and Premier League success in recent seasons.

Wijnaldum appeared to point the finger at the club’s owners FSG in a statement he released on Instagram on Sunday.

The former Newcastle star said he wanted to stay at Liverpool but could not agree a new contract.

Wijnaldum wrote: “It’s really emotional for me right now, I’m very happy that we managed to get the third place and secure Champions League football for the club next season.⁣⁣

“On the other hand I’m fighting back tears, the people in Liverpool have showed me so much love in the last five years. It’s very hard to say goodbye.⁣

“The prizes we won, fans singing my name, I will never forget the amazing things we achieved with this fantastic club. We shared unforgettable moments together, no one can ever take that from us.⁣⁣

“I would have loved to remain a Liverpool player for many more years, but unfortunately things went different. I have to start a new adventure.⁣⁣

“I didn’t sign somewhere else, everyone knows in football everything can happen. The situation right now is that as of July 1st, I’m not a Liverpool player anymore. We will see what I will do in the next couple of weeks. I will rest a little bit and then go to the national team.

“I will have a look at my story and how everything went. The fans deserve to know the story behind it. ⁣Thank you for everything, I will miss you #YNWA.”
