Liverpool's quarter-season report: Best and worst player, transfer targets and grade

    [ad_1]

Liverpool’s season is going relatively well so far as the Reds remain in the hunt to complete the quadruple, despite recent poor results. Jurgen Klopp’s men lost their first game of the season against West Ham last week, although draws have also slowed their season down – with the club only taking nine points from their last six games.

There have been impressive performers and some slightly more disappointing ones, but who falls into what category?

Express Sport takes a look at Liverpool’s quarterly report.

    Best player so far

There can only be one answer for this, can’t there?

Mohamed Salah has been nothing short of sensational since his move from Roma in 2017, but this season he really has ramped his game up to a level many didn’t think was possible.

Arguably the best player in the world so far in the current campaign, Salah has single-handedly carried Liverpool to the top four with 10 goals in just 11 starts in the Premier League.

Failing to register a goal or assist in just two of those games, there is a reason the Reds are an outfit to be feared in the Premier League as Salah continues to be relentless.

And his five goals in just four Champions League games shouldn’t go unnoticed, either – his continental and domestic output means he is contributing to a goal every 62 minutes and 54 seconds.

    Most disappointing player so far

There haven’t been too many let-downs so far in the Liverpool side, and it is harsh to consider them as such given that the loss against West Ham on Sunday was their first of the season.

However in terms of individual performances, Andy Robertson must be hoping he can produce more for his side after the international break.

The Scot has only registered one assist in 10 games this season, a tally that is some way below what he is normally capable of.

And with the Reds only winning three of the eight Premier League games Robertson has featured in – not conceding when he hasn’t played – there may be a shout to bring in Kostas Tsimikas instead of him.

    Overall grade: A-

It would be harsh to mark Liverpool down too much – again, they have only lost one game from 15 which is an extremely hard feat for any side in the world.

Their recent wobble, however, means that they cannot be awarded anything higher than an A-.

Given their Champions League successes and their continued title charge after a horror run last season, though, the Reds are still in with a big shot of glory in the near future.
