    Lorde will no longer be performing at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards after the show experienced a ‘change in production elements’


    Lorde has been dropped from the list of performers at the upcoming 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.

    The 24-year-old singer’s absence from the annual event was announced on the production’s official Twitter account in a post that was shared on Friday.

    The tweet read that, following a ‘change in production elements, Lorde can no longer perform at this year’s show. We love Lorde and cannot wait for her to perform on the VMA stage in the future!’

    Lorde was expected to perform a track off of her latest album, Solar Power, which was made available to the public last month.

    She has not made any public comments on the sudden change of plans as of yet.

    Her last performance at the annual event took place in 2017 when she danced to her track Homemade Dynamite.

    The songstress notably did not provide vocals for the performance, as she was dealing with a case of the flu.

    The hitmaker’s first appearance at the event occurred in 2014 when the video for her breakout track Royals was nominated for two awards, and she ultimately took home the distinction for Best Rock Video. 

    In 2017, Lorde was put up for the Artist of the Year distinction, and the video for her track Green Light was also nominated for Best Editing, although she did not win either of the two.

    The visual accompaniment for her track Solar Power is currently being considered for the Best Cinematography award.

    She has also been nominated for numerous distinctions at various international versions of the annual ceremony.

    The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards is currently set to be hosted by Doja Cat, who will also perform during the event.

    Numerous musical artists will take to the stage at the ceremony, including Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Bieber and Camila Cabello, among numerous others.

    Kim Petras and Swedish House Mafia will also play prior to the beginning of the show. 

    The Foo Fighters are currently set to receive the inaugural U.S. Global Icon award at the function, and they will perform as well.

    The annual awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 12th.
