Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba that he wants to see a strong performance after naming both players in the starting XI away at Atalanta. Pogba has yet to produce his best football this season and could leave for free when his contract expires next summer.
Meanwhile, Rashford has only just recovered from injury and is fighting for a place in the team.
Solskjaer called out both stars prior to kick-off, adding extra pressure on their performances.
“We’re hoping to see the best of Marcus [Rashford] and Paul [Pogba],” Solskjaer said.
“I thought Marcus was very good versus Atalanta at Old Trafford. He caused problems with his dynamism and runs in behind.”
Defender Eric Bailly was also handed a rare start in place of Victor Lindelof and Solskjaer is confident the centre-back can step upto the mark.
“Yeah he’s been really keen [to play],” Solskjaer added. “He’s worked really hard and trained really well. Of course he’s played a few games with Ivory Coast as well, so he’ll be ready.”
Atalanta took a shock 2-0 lead in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford before Cristiano Ronaldo spared United’s blushes with by completing the comeback in the dying second.
“The game will be a completely different match to the reverse fixture,” said Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
“We did show a great deal of character at Old Trafford. There were more than 70,000 in that night.
