Man Utd boss Solskjaer tables complaint and provides Raphael Varane injury update

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer felt Atalanta’s second goal of the evening was offside even though VAR drew the lines which showed that Harry Maguire was playing Duvan Zapata on.

United fell behind when David De Gea spilt Josip Ilcic’s 12th-minute shot into the net but they levelled after Cristiano Ronaldo latched onto Bruno Fernandes’ clever backheel before firing home.

Zapata broke through on goal just before the hour mark to give the hosts a well-deserved lead.

But Ronaldo once again came to United’s aid with a stunning injury-time equaliser which earned his side a share of the point.

However, Solskjaer felt his team could have stolen all three points.

“It’s a tight game,” he said. “Their goals were tight, we were hoping for offside but Cristiano is just incredible that’s what he does if there’s anyone you want the chance to fall to, in the last minute he keeps his eye on the ball and his technique was incredible.”

United’s draw was marred by Raphael Varane limping off injured and he is now a doubt for Saturday’s Manchester derby.

“Varane felt his hamstring and you can’t take any risks and he’s been such a calming influence for us and it’s a shame,” Solskjaer explained.

“The quality wasn’t there. Eric Bailey blocked a fantastic chance and if you make a mistake make up for it and the character was spot on and they kept going and never gave up.”
