Man Utd have secret weapon to beat Chelsea to Erling Haaland transfer

Manchester United and Chelsea are set to battle it out for Erling Haaland in the summer transfer window but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might just have signed their best advantage in the race.

Haaland is top of many club’s shortlists this summer but a Premier League transfer could be in the offing.

United and Chelsea are top of the teams looking to complete a deal, as are Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Norway international has been in jaw-dropping form this season, scoring 41 goals in all competitions.

His efforts have helped Dortmund land a spot in the Champions League ahead of next year, clinching a top-four spot in the Bundesliga against the odds.

It had been a miserable campaign for the Signal Iduna Park outfit after Lucien Favre was sacked and results did not improve.

But a late flourish has seen Dortmund land a Champions League spot and even some silverware in the shape of the DFB-Pokal Cup.

Haaland was in fine form in the final, scoring twice in a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig while Europe’s top clubs watch on.

But United may have taken a major step towards landing Haaland after agreeing a deal to sign Jadon Sancho.

The duo forged a brilliant relationship at Borussia Dortmund, where the winger regularly set up the Norwegian.

During England’s win over Germany, Haaland even tweeted to tell Gareth Southgate to get Sancho on the pitch.

And his father, Alf-Inge, was one of the first to respond as news broke that United had agreed a fee to sign the Camberwell-born ace.

If United used the fact that they have Sancho in their arsenal, the 20-year-old might be more inclined to reunite with him rather than go anywhere else.

That could see Chelsea spurned in the transfer market despite their Champions League win this summer.

The competition is incredibly important to Haaland and he would have kicked up more of a stink over leaving if Dortmund did not get a spot in it last season.

Regardless, the race for Haaland will stretch on over the summer no doubt as Dortmund look to battle off interest.
