Man Utd have transfer belief that should worry rivals Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool

Manchester United, fresh from the completed signing of Jadon Sancho, reportedly believe that they have one of the most fearsome attacks in Europe. The club expect their rivals to fear their attacking contingent both now and in the future, with a long-term striker expected to be lured to Old Trafford in 2022.

The squad depth currently at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s disposal is something to behold, particularly up top where United could theoretically field two separate, equally formidable quartets.

United could start Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Edinson Cavani, while having Donny van de Beek, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba waiting in the wings.

Solskjaer is set to enjoy that kind of weaponry for years to come, after the Norwegian was handed a two-year contract extension on Saturday.

In terms of their long-term future up top, Greenwood is expected to come on leaps and bounds through the middle, but 2022 may just come too soon for the teenager.

If United enter the fray for a top striker next summer as suggested by Manchester Evening News, it will coincide with the activation of Erling Haaland’s £65million release clause, which is expected to cause a frenzy of transfer activity.

Next year, Cavani will be 35 years old. No matter how impressive he has been at Old Trafford so far, transfer chief John Murtough would be wise to plan for the future.

United’s newest attacking recruit, Sancho, was formally announced as a United player on Friday.

Confirmation of the £72.6m deal calls time on a transfer saga which stretched over two summers.

The former Borussia Dortmund man will bring a new ingredient to the United attack, having established himself as an out-and-out winger rather than a striker thrust out wide.

Sancho left Manchester in 2017, then contracted to City, in an £8m move to the Bundesliga.

Having contributed to 107 goals in 137 appearances during his time at Dortmund, the youngster was nothing short of a revelation.

Four years on and the 21-year-old is back in the city where he made his name as a youth product, although this time sporting red.

United could be set for further squad changes in the coming weeks, with Paul Pogba heavily rumoured to be perking the interest of PSG.

That would reportedly land the club with a cool £60m, enough for them to sign a high-profile replacement, unless they are willing to grant extra responsibility to Donny van de Beek.

Whichever way it’s spun, United currently have an embarrassment of riches at the business end of the pitch, so much so that Solskjaer may have his work cut out keeping all of them happy for the season ahead.

With serious business expected to follow in the coming years, United are showing serious intent on their journey back to the top of English football.
