With time ticking down until the transfer window slams shut, Manchester United are reportedly making a late move for Yves Bissouma, making Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s next transfer priority clear. The Malian has starred for Brighton since joining the Seagulls from Lille in the summer of 2018.

He has become a regular in Graham Potter’s team, attracting a long line of suitors among Europe’s top clubs.

He helped Brighton to secure their record points tally in the Premier League last term and was man-of-the-match as the Seagulls defeated Watford last Saturday.

Bissouma had a pass success rate of 85 per cent, won seven defensive duels, made five interceptions and eight recoveries as Brighton eased past the Hornets.

That performance was typical of Bissouma’s time at the AMEX Stadium, drawing the eye of the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

The 24-year-old has become one of the first names on the shortlist when teams are looking for a new midfielder.

The Norwegian is looking to guide the Red Devils to a Premier League title challenge this season, but many pundits believe they are missing one vital ingredient.

That is in defensive midfield, where Solskjaer’s current options are hampering his bid to win the league for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

This problem was highlighted in their trip to Southampton, in which Solskjaer selected Fred and Nemanja Matic in defensive midfield.

But the pairing struggled badly against the Saints, failing to provide the platform United needed in attack.

That led to United suffering an early title blow, with Solskjaer’s men only able to pick up a solitary point at St Mary’s.

United’s midfield problem has also been worsened by the fact that Scott McTominay has been forced to undergo surgery to rectify a groin issue.

Solskjaer is now forced to select Matic and Fred if he wants a double holding pair, highlighting the need for a new midfielder.

The Bissouma pursuit suggests that Solskjaer knows this and is this reason why he has made signing a midfielder is top priority in the final few days of the window.
