Manchester kidnap fail: Cruel gang unsuccessfully request £20k payoff for victim's release

The target was about to enter his Audi S3 on Saturday evening when three men kidnapped him. They surrounded his car in a white Audi Q5 and bundled him in before driving off.

They let him out in Manchester’s Stretford area and drove away, police claimed, leaving through Chorlton via Egerton Road.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the man, in his 20s, suffered minor injuries.

They said in a statement: “At around 9.30pm on Saturday (October 16), police were called to reports of a kidnapping on Westfield Street, Chorlton, Manchester.

The victim’s Audi A3 is still missing and the car in which the three kidnappers surprised him remains outstanding too.

According to data released by Statista last July, in 2020/21 there were 5.72 thousand kidnapping offences recorded by police in England and Wales – a small decrease from the previous year.

But up until 2019/20, the number of kidnappings had grown steadily for seven years straight since 2012/13, when it was at the lowest point of the last two decades with 1.39 thousand reported offences.

Police have launched an investigation to identify the Manchester kidnap gang.

Anyone with information — including dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time — is urged to contact police on 0161 856 6063, quoting incident number 3150 of 16/10/2021.

Details can also be given anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
