Manchester United have long been linked with Cristiano Ronaldo. But, this summer, the stars appear to be aligning. The Juventus star is ready to leave Serie A behind for a different challenge, with a move to Old Trafford ‘tempting him’ at the current moment in time.
Manchester United saw Ronaldo take the Premier League by storm during his six years at the club, helping them win three league titles as well as the Champions League in 2008.
The Portugal international was sold to Real Madrid in 2009 and, every year since, has been tipped to return.
But an emotional homecoming for Ronaldo could be on the cards this summer.
The Glazers have reportedly talked with Jorge Mendes about the 36-year-old, who was Juventus’ top goalscorer as they scraped their way into the Champions League this term.
Ronaldo is said to be ‘tempted’ by the prospect of an emotional second coming, 11 years after he quit.
And, what’s more, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still in touch with his former team-mate.
So Express Sport will now take a look at four squad numbers he could wear if he’s to make the blockbuster switch.

While Anthony Martial got the No 9 shirt back off Romelu Lukaku two years ago, it’s another possibility for Ronaldo.
The Portugal international wore it for a single season at Real Madrid, when the No 7 was occupied by Raul.
And Martial, given his poor form, may find himself being stripped of the role.
Solskjaer has told the Glazers he wants the France international to stay at the club, believing he’s got a big role to play.
But Martial may have to accept a change in status if that’s to happen.
United may offload Juan Mata this summer.
The Spain international has been a big asset for the club ever since arriving from Chelsea back in the January transfer window of 2014, when David Moyes was in charge.
And a parting of the ways may be on the cards, with the playmaker’s situation currently up in the air.
Should Mata leave, Ronaldo taking the No 8 shirt is a possibility.
It’s not exactly an exciting number but was previously worn by close friend Anderson during his own time in England.
Facundo Pellistri was given the No 28 shirt when he joined United last summer.
Yet the Uruguay international is expected to leave on loan again, having played for Deportivo Alaves since January.
Ronaldo, when at Sporting Lisbon, donned the No 28 shirt.
So it could be a tempting one for him to take if he heads back to United after all these years.
